I am Tetteh Kennedy, a laboratory technician. On Friday, May 5th 2023, a mini staff lecture was held at the premise of Savior Diagnostic and Herbal Research Clinic.
During this lecture, I took the staff through some of the basic tests such as the STI Profile (chlamydia, hepatitis band c, syphilis, gonorrhea etc.), Biochemical Tests (lipid profile, kidney function test, liver function test, serum uric acid etc). Other tests such as malaria, sickling, blood grouping, prostate and many others are also offered at the facility.
The staff were much impressed and asked series of questions after the presentation.
Question
How do you use a microscope in viewing other different slides?
Answer: The compound microscope has various different lenses for viewing slides, based on the type of test slide. Malaria blood film is viewed using the X100 magnification and sickling as well as urine deposits are viewed by X40 magnification.
Summary
Biochemical tests results are needed to inform the physician about the health status of some vital organs in the body such as the liver, kidney, heart etc. Other routine laboratory tests aids in better and more conclusive diagnosis of diseases and treatment.
